Step-by-step newbie guide

Getting involved in MBP is actually a very simple process once you get right down to it. Here it is in five easy steps.

Step 1:
Figure out who you want to be. You can be an adult in the entertainment industry (music, movies, TV, theater), a child star, an adult in professional sports, a relative or friend of a celebrity (children are fine, as long as they are old enough to write), an agent, manager, or other industry person, a royalty, a politician, or a socialite who gets a lot of rainbow press coverage. In order to maintain a certain level of decency, we do not allow dead or fictive people, religious figures, criminals, body parts, animals and the like into the main community.
To check to see if that person is taken, go here. If the person is on the list, check their full user information and look if they are past 6 weeks.
If they last updated 6 weeks ago or more, go to Step 2.
If the journal is deleted, go to Step 2.
If the journal is active (last updated less than 6 weeks ago), you have to find somebody else to play. You may want to go to our community of suggestions for who to play, located here.

Step 2:
Get a LiveJournal at www.livejournal.com, write one update and then register by leaving a comment to enter_mbp.
All celebrities within the MBP universe must have "appropriate disclaimers" as defined by LJ Abuse. That is:
- link to http://www.geocities.com/must_be_pop2001 as website link.
- a statement in the userinformation making it obvious for outsiders that the journal is fake (something like "This journal is fake. It is not written by the real celebrity." will do just fine).
- a disclaimer link on every entry. If you have journal style S1, you can just use this override code. If you have journal style S2, you will have to link manually in every entry.
Otherwise, you can set up the journal however you want it, preferrably with some icons. If you don't have icons, go join mbp_paparazzi and someone will make you some.
Remember: You must have at least one update (less than six weeks old) in your journal before registering.

Step 3:
Add people to your friends list and start commenting to them. If you want a list of people to choose from when building your friends list, go here... it's generally a good idea to add bandmates, castmates and other people your celebrity hangs out with in real life. If you want to know more about the game or more advice, check out our completely unofficial "user manual" (currently unavailable).

Step 4:
You may want to get an AIM name because a lot of people roleplay on AOL Instant Messenger. To get one of those, go here. You'll want a seperate AIM name for your character rather than the one you use for yourself. Go to the user info pages of the people on your friends list, checking for AIM screen names, and add whichever ones you see.

Step 5:
To get more involved, you may want to check out our page of other things to do or join some communities that you see around. Some communities require you to be recommended, for some you need to be approved, some just let you join. Unfortunately, communities get created and fall inactive too quickly for us to keep up with them. If you are interested in helping out, please email reaching_mbp@yahoo.com. Thanks a lot!!
